The Chamber of Commerce and Industry also ordered Google to change its approach to the Android platform and limit Google to certain revenue-sharing agreements with smartphone manufacturers.

Google Alphabet Inc. said on Friday that the Indian Antitrust Authority’s decision to fine Indian rupees 13.38 billion ($161.95 million) for anti-competitive practices was a “major setback” for consumers and businesses in the country.

India’s Competition Commission (CCI) on Thursday said Google was using its dominance in markets such as online search and the Android app store to improve the position of its apps such as Chrome and YouTube in mobile web browsers and online video hosting to protect.

In addition to the fine, CCI also asked Google to change its approach to the Android platform and bar it from certain revenue-sharing agreements with smartphone manufacturers.

“Android has created more choices for everyone and supports thousands of successful businesses in India and around the world,” a Google spokesperson said Friday.

“CCI’s decision is a major setback for Indian consumers and businesses, creates a serious security risk for Indians who trust Android security features, and increases the price of mobile devices for Indians.”

Google said it would review the decision to assess next steps.
